B.Tech in India is a 4-year undergraduate programme designed to build strong foundations in mathematics, physics, programming, and core engineering concepts, followed by in-depth training in a chosen branch. The first year typically covers common subjects such as Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Physics/Chemistry, Basics of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Programming, Engineering Graphics, and workshops. From the second year onward, students study branch-specific courses, work in laboratories, and develop technical competency through mini-projects. Most universities include internships, industry visits, seminars, and a final-year capstone project, which improves employability. Admission is largely merit-based through national/state/private entrance exams, with counselling for seat allotment. Fees and outcomes vary widely by institution type (government, aided, private, deemed). Graduates are eligible for entry-level roles in engineering services, software development, manufacturing, infrastructure, electronics, and R&D, and may also pursue GATE for M.Tech/PSU opportunities or go abroad for MS.
