B.A. Sociology in India is a three-year bachelor’s degree focused on understanding social structures, relationships, and contemporary issues through sociological perspectives. The curriculum typically covers classical and modern sociological thinkers, social stratification, social change, and institutions such as family, economy, polity, education, and religion. Indian society is a major focus area, with themes like caste, tribe, gender, urbanisation, migration, social movements, and development addressed in depth. Students learn qualitative and quantitative research methods, including fieldwork, surveys, interviews, observation, and basic data interpretation, helping them analyse real-world social problems. Many universities offer electives in areas such as criminology, industrial sociology, media, environment, and population studies. Graduates can work in NGOs, CSR, research organisations, community development, social welfare, and entry-level roles in policy and program implementation.
