D.El.Ed. in India is a 2-year diploma programme in the education stream, aimed at training teachers for Classes I–VIII (as per state norms and the institution’s curriculum). The course builds foundational knowledge of child psychology, learning processes, pedagogy of core subjects (language, mathematics, environmental studies/science, and social science), and inclusive education. A strong practical component is included through school internships, lesson planning, classroom observation, micro-teaching, and teaching practice. Most programmes follow the NCTE framework and state-specific syllabi implemented by SCERT/DIETs, universities, or recognised teacher education institutes. Admissions are generally merit-based or through state-level entrance tests, depending on the state/UT and the admitting body. After completion, graduates typically pursue roles in government or private elementary schools, often alongside qualifying in state TET/CTET (as applicable) and meeting local recruitment rules.
