M.Ed. in India is a two-year master’s degree designed to develop advanced competencies in education, pedagogy, and research. A key emphasis is on educational research: students learn quantitative and qualitative methods, statistics, tool construction, and academic writing, culminating in a dissertation. Many institutions also include practicum components like internship/field engagement in schools, teacher education colleges, or educational NGOs, along with seminars, workshops, and reflective assignments. Graduates typically move into teacher educator roles in B.Ed./D.El.Ed. institutions, become academic coordinators, curriculum designers, counsellors, or pursue M.Phil./Ph.D. in Education. Admission is generally through university-level entrance tests and/or merit, with eligibility primarily requiring a B.Ed. or equivalent professional teacher education qualification with prescribed marks.
