MCh (Master of Chirurgiae) is a 3-year super-specialty program designed to develop advanced surgical expertise beyond MS. In India, MCh is offered in multiple specialties such as Neurosurgery, Urology, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS), Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Endocrine Surgery, and others, depending on institute approvals. The curriculum is largely hospital-based, with extensive hands-on operative exposure, management of complex cases, emergency duties, ICU and perioperative care, and multidisciplinary decision-making. Academic components typically include seminars, journal clubs, morbidity and mortality meetings, case presentations, and teaching of junior residents. Most institutions require research work leading to a dissertation/thesis and may encourage publications and conference presentations. Admission to MCh in India is primarily through national-level entrance testing (commonly NEET-SS) followed by centralized counselling and institute allotment based on rank, category, and seat availability.
