Counseling

Counselling and seat allocation for JEE Advanced 2026 qualified candidates is managed centrally by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), commencing around June 02, 2026. This unified process covers seats in 23 IITs, IISc Bengaluru (new from 2026), 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs), using JEE Advanced ranks exclusively for IITs/IISc and JEE Main ranks for others. The process begins with online registration on josaa.nic.in, followed by choice filling where candidates list preferred programs and institutes in order of priority (unlimited choices allowed). Multiple rounds (usually 6–7) of seat allotment follow, based on rank, category, availability, and locked choices. After each round, candidates have options: Freeze (accept and end process), Float (accept but remain eligible for upgrades), Slide (accept but seek better program in same institute), or Withdraw. Spot rounds and CSAB special rounds may follow to fill vacant seats. Document verification (Class 10/12 certificates, category/PwD certificates, photo ID) occurs online or at reporting centres, followed by fee payment and final reporting to the allotted institute. Strategic choice filling – prioritising preferred branches over institutes and including safe options – maximises chances of securing desired seats. Thorough preparation, regular mock choice filling, and awareness of previous years’ opening/closing ranks are key to navigating this critical phase successfully.
