In a significant move to prevent future paper leaks and strengthen the integrity of the exam, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has confirmed that NEET UG 2027 will be conducted in a fully Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.

The decision follows the massive controversy and cancellation of NEET 2026 amid serious allegations of a paper leak. The CBI is currently investigating the case. The re-test for affected candidates is set for June 21, 2026, in offline mode.

Minister Pradhan stated that the traditional OMR-based pen-and-paper format has become vulnerable to leaks. Switching to CBT mode will bring greater transparency, security, and efficiency through digital encryption, biometric authentication, and centralized monitoring. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which already conducts JEE Main and CUET in CBT format, will handle the transition.

This reform is being seen as a long-term solution to eliminate malpractices in one of India’s largest entrance exams. While experts have largely welcomed the move, concerns have been raised regarding digital infrastructure and access in rural and remote areas.

The detailed notification and guidelines for NEET 2027 are expected to be released soon by the NTA.
